Songfacts®:

  • Ashley Monroe and Angaleena Presley each take a turn to drop a verse describing a night of hard living and the morning after, while Miranda Lambert croons the chorus.

    We're right on the brink
    Burned out like prom queens
It's all mirrors and smoke rings
So stop, drop and roll one
  • The song was birthed during an especially fruitful songwriting session at Lambert's Tennessee farm. Ashley Monroe recalled: "Miranda said, 'Girls, we're on fire I think…' and then she said, 'So stop, drop and roll one!'"

The trio then began trading lines about the flawed characters enjoying not-so-sober nights at some downbeaten honky-tonk.
  • "Stop, drop and roll" is what American schoolchildren are taught to do if they find themselves on fire. This song is a play on that phrase, advising to stop, drop and roll a joint if metaphorically on fire.
