Songfacts®:

  • A "sugar daddy" is a rich middle-aged or elderly man who provides financial and material support to much a younger female companion. The expression is derived from the slang term sugar meaning "money" and the colloquial term daddy meaning "father."

This blues-rock-influenced song finds the Pistol Annies giving thanks for these rich men who know how to treat a woman. Miranda Lambert kicks the song off:

My sugar daddy's got diamonds in his watch
Got a boat on the dock
'Cause a-why not? I'm his lady
    Give me some sugar daddy

The fact that Lambert's man happens to owns a boat and a diamond encrusted watch only adds to his appeal.
  • The three girls each take a verse, and by the end of the song, it becomes clear that it's the Pistol Annies who are in charge of the relationships. Ashley Monroe sings in the final verse:

After I leave him high on the hog
I'll let him drink from the fountain
And leave him wantin' more like a boss

Pistol Annies explained in an Instagram post that a lot of the song's lyrics came from things either they or their friends had said, adding that, "it's actual quotes put to melody."
