Songfacts®:

  • Frontman Brian Molko told Kerrang! June 27, 2009 that this song "was inspired by the conceptual artist Jenny Holzer." He added: "It is really a discourse with myself about my self destructive behavior."
  • This is a cut from Placebo's fourth studio album, Sleeping With Ghosts. The ghosts of the title are the past relationships that haunt the singer. On this particular track, Molko says he "was hurting deeply and coming out of a very self-destructive relationship, hence the creepy atmosphere."
  • For this album, the power trio wanted to expand their sound and invited producer Jim Abbiss (Bjork, Massive Attack) to bring them into an electronic territory. Molko told Kerrang in 2003: "It doesn't turn its back on the vibe of Placebo, but we've taken a few more chances. We're not trying to be willfully obscure; we're just trying to spread it out a bit more. Melodies we'd usually do on a guitar we've played on other instruments to keep the sonic palate exciting."
