Songfacts®:

  • "Guy For That" is a collaboration between Post Malone and country star Luke Combs. The two trade verses about having amassed a network of fellas for almost any situation, whether it's resoling boots, rebinding bibles or fixing a car. The one thing they're lacking is someone who can help when it comes to mending a broken relationship. It's a song about being handy with a wrench but hopeless with a heart.
  • Malone and Combs first teased "Guy For That" in February 2024, but the song was shelved until July 26, 2024 when it was released as the third single from Malone's first country album, F-1 Trillion.
  • "Guy For That" was Malone's third collaboration with a country artist, following the Morgan Wallen hit "I Had Some Help" and the Blake Shelton duet "Pour Me A Drink."

For Luke Combs, the song marks his second hook-up with an artist outside of country music, following British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran's "Life Goes On."
  • Malone and Combs wrote the song with regular Morgan Wallen collaborator Ernest and with James McNair, who has co-penned several of Luke Combs' hits, including "Lovin' On You" and "Going, Going, Gone."
  • Post Malone's go-to producer, Louis Bell, teamed up with Charlie Handsome and Hoskins to create this high-octane number. The same trio cooked up "I Had Some Help."
  • The musicians are:

Derek Wells: acoustic guitar, electric guitar
    Craig Young: bass guitar
    Paul Franklin: steel guitar
    Dave Cohen: keyboards
    Larry Franklin: fiddle
    Aaron Sterling: drums
    Wes Hightower: background vocals
  • Post Malone and Luke Combs pulled off a bonkers stunt for their "Guy For That" video. They found themselves trapped in portable toilets on the back of a truck, careening through the heart of Nashville. The two stars decided to surprise folks with an impromptu performance of the song on the truck bed.

Rather than roping off a filming location, director Chris Villa opted to film onlookers' natural reactions to their unexpected parade. Villa is the same guy who brought us the "I Had Some Help" and "Pour Me a Drink" visuals.
