Songfacts®:

  • This upbeat funk-rock jam is a song from Prince's Plectrum Electum album, which he performs with his 3rdEyeGirl band. The group was made up of guitarist Donna Grantis, bassist Ida Neilsen and drummer Hannah Ford Welton. Nielsen told the crowd at a listening party that Plectrum Electum was, "completely recorded live, analog, old-school. We were influenced by Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, people that recorded analog. People aren't recording analog anymore. It's manufactured, overproduced music."
  • The Minneapolis singer debuted the song in the post-Super Bowl "Prince" episode of New Girl, which also featured the superstar dishing out relationship advice to the show's stars Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson). "He contacted us last season because he's a huge fan," the show's producer Brett Baer told MTV News. "He knows everything about the show. He contacted Zooey and Hannah [Simone] directly and asked to do the show. We couldn't work it out last year. But when the Super Bowl thing was floated, it was perfect timing."
