Songfacts®:

  • This song was written for the movie of the same name, starring Denzel Washington and directed by Spike Lee. It samples the two-note riff from Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth." Stephen Stills also makes a guest appearance, singing the first verse and chorus of "For What It's Worth." >>>

  • Ah from ScWe are in the middle of the battle they referenced here. The Satanic bloodlines aim to keep control through oppression and division via race, religion, gender, and political dualities. Wake up to the TRUTH. We need to unite to stop this.
  • Jas from Clifton, TxThis is surprisingly deep for Public Enemy. I like some Public Enemy, just not a lot. Wanting equality and justice is a good thing, but you'll never get there by threatening to blow up a Governor's car or talking about shooting anybody really. Why doesn't Songfacts have "Fight the Power" on the list for Public Enemy? It just doesn't make sense. Even people who have never consciously chosen to listen to Public Enemy have heard "Fight the Power." I think that the best part of this song/video has to be the multiple shots of Denzel Washington with an afro. He shaves his head for Glory, yet he grows an afro that makes him look a little psychotic for He Got Game? Come on, you gotta work with us a little, Mr. Washington.
  • Yos from Santo Domingo, Dominican RepublicBeautiful song, shame it was for a motion picture, i wonder if that's the reason why this is often an overlooked song from PE.
