Songfacts®:

  • A twisted, jolting cut of blues rock, this six-and-a-half-minute mini-epic features three verses completely different from each other. Speaking with BBC Radio 1's Annie Mac, singer Josh Homme explained:

"Often times music is like opening a closet full of toys and they're all interconnected and there are so many riffs that are related to the others and it kept going somewhere new.

"I think most songs are a bit like a merry-go-round - verse, chorus, verse but this one is like a bus stop, you get on and it takes you somewhere else. Hopefully it's an experience."
  • Mojo magazine asked Josh Homme if he was surprised to discover nobody had yet taken the title of 'The Evil Has Landed.' He replied:

"It was a temporary title (laughs). The other titles were called Going On A Living Spree, Near Life Experience, The Last Float On Parade. For some reason we kept coming back to The Evil Has Landed, which is never mentioned once in the song. Those other titles are not half bad but they didn't encapsulate it. That song is like you're on a bus that someone hijacks and takes you somewhere else. Somehow it all makes sense."
