  • In an interview with Screaming in Digital, guitarist Chris Degarmo, who wrote this song with lead singer Geoff Tate, explained: "sp00L finishes up with a re-affirmation of the individual. Geoff borrows a very famous line from Descartes there, you know, "I think, therefore I am." We like to point out that it doesn't say, "They think, therefore I am." It's about letting go of much of what we've come to accept as the way things are, and recognizing that we need to constantly reevaluate where we are and where we're going. Geoff uses the metaphor of a spool to get us there, to rise to that next collective level of consciousness, while we stay trapped by all of the framework that we've built around us in our systems and our history and our beliefs and everything. We're dragging all this baggage with us from the past, it makes it very difficult to get somewhere as a collective human conscience."
