Songfacts®:

  • Rory Graham, aka Rag'n'Bone Man, wrote "Crossfire" about a mad dream he had where there's just him and one other person left on this planet. He explained to Apple Music that everybody else died as they all "just stood around waiting for somebody else to change stuff."
  • Graham told the BBC the song is about the curse of "stupid male pride."
  • Graham wrote "Crossfire" with his keyboard player/musical director Ben Jackson-Cook and bassist Bill Banwell. Mike Elizondo (50 Cent's "In Da Club," Carrie Underwood's "Cowboy Casanova," Twenty One Pilots' "Stressed Out") produced the track.
  • Rag'n'Bone Man recorded the song in Nashville for his second album Life by Misadventure. Graham arrived in Music City with Ben Jackson-Cook and Bill Banwell in spring 2020 just as the COVID-19 pandemic put a halt on everything. They spent a fortnight locked down in their rented house and when they were finally allowed into the studio, Graham created 13 songs in six days.
