Songfacts®:

  • Written by Cary Barlowe, David Hodges and Josh Thompson, this classic Rascal Flatts power ballad finds vocalist Gary LeVox acknowledging that he is not giving his lover everything. He vows to return to his roots to save their faltering relationship.

I'm gonna run straight back to us baby
No more same old someone else
Back to the one you used to love like crazy
Maybe, you'll save me from myself

LeVox wants to become again the man that his lover fell in love with.
  • As soon as they recorded it, this immediately became one of the Flatts' favorite songs and the cornerstone of their Back To Us record. "When we cut 'Back to Us,' we called the album that for a reason: because we loved the song, we loved the message in the song, and it was one of the first ones that we put on hold for the album," Gary LeVox told reporters. "We just thought it was a great segue into the next piece of the puzzle when we put this whole thing together."
