Songfacts®:

  • The opening track to Rascal Flatts' third album Feels Like Today, "Where You Are" was written by the songwriters James LeBlanc and Catt Gravitt. Gravitt, who is from Illinois, works out of Nashville while LeBlanc, a native of Louisiana, is based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, which is where they wrote the song.

Gravitt says they hadn't met before their songwriting session, but they formed a "spiritual connection" when they got together.
  • In a Songfacts interview with Catt Gravitt, she explained that although it could be interpreted as an interpersonal relationship, this song is about God.
  • When the song's co-writer Catt Gravitt asked Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox why he connected with this song and decided to record it, he replied: "Because when I sing it, it feels like a baptism."
