Songfacts®:

  • This ode to females being pitted against other females finds an angry Raye calling for her fellow women to stop the negativity that is all so easy to create and instead see the best in each other.

Why is it if I'm not a boy I'm an enemy?
This damn mentality is killin' me
And don't get me wrong we can all be that
Forgive me for tryna believe that

Raye said: "As you grow older, the list of people you can trust becomes smaller and smaller. I've lost a lot of people from my circle, experiencing the nastiest side of girls and boys. But I don't care. I know real from fake and I am so blessed to have true friends behind me every step of the way. My friends are my sisters. My ride or dies, there for me through thick and thin."
  • The song was produced by Mark Ralph & Kyle Shearer, the team behind Martin Garrix and Dua Lipa's "Scared To Be Lonely," alongside longtime Raye collaborator Fred Gibson who has also helmed UK chart-toppers by Clean Bandit ("Solo") and George Ezra ("Shotgun").
  • The hard-hitting video was directed by Max Weiland, whose other credits include "Give Me a Try" by The Wombats and "Something To Remember Me By" by The Horrors. The clip sees Raye getting her own back on a variety of girls (and a guy) who've done her wrong. She said:

"I wanted this video to be about getting petty revenge on the awful things girls say and do to one another. It's filmed in a very tongue in cheek way."
