Songfacts®:

  • Real Boston Richey (real name Jalen Foster) is a rapper from Tallahassee, Florida who began rapping in 2021 after the passing of his cousin. He first hit Billboard's charts the following year with his mixtape Public Housing. "Help Me" is his first song to appear on a singles chart.
  • Throughout "Help Me," Richey gets painfully personal as he openly shares his challenges. He asks his girl to stick with him as he searches for answers to his problems. The song shows a different, more vulnerable side to the rapper than the one he normally portrays on his violent trap bangers.
  • Mac Fly created the 808-heavy instrumental. The producer is best known for his beat on King Von's breakout hit "Crazy Story."
  • Richey told Billboard when he first heard Mac Fly's instrumentation, "the beat was telling me, saying, 'Help me.'"

Reflecting that feeling, he recorded the track but initially forgot about it. Later, while on the road, his brother stumbled upon the song and played it in the car during a quiet moment. The reaction was immediate and electric - everyone woke up, asking, "What is this?!"

Richey explained how the buzz around the track escalated. They filmed the music video that very night, and snippets shared on social media created a groundswell of anticipation. Even before its release, the song's preview stirred fans at shows and lit up Instagram. After a couple of months of teasing, the full track dropped, validating the hype with a wave of enthusiasm.
  • Richey recorded a second part - "Help Me 2" - for his Richey Rich album.
