Songfacts®:

  • This down-tempo, guitar-driven track paints a portrait of drinking the pain away following the breakdown of a marriage.

The only thing I can do
Is pour a glass and pretend
    That this pain's gonna end

McEntire can readily identify with the heartbreak that comes from the dissolution of a longtime relationship. In 2015, she split from her husband of 26 years, Narvel Blackstock.
  • The song was written by Hannah Louise Blaylock, formerly of the country group Edens Edge, and Autumn McEntire, who is Reba McEntire's niece. McEntire first heard "Stronger Than The Truth" back in 2014, when Autumn McEntire performed it during a showcase, and immediately fell in love with the tune.

"Every word of that song was good. There weren't any throwaways," she told The Boot. "It was one of those timeless songs that you love. Merle Haggard could've recorded this song. It's just a real stone country, great country song that'll tear your heart out."
