Songfacts®:

  • This song is about a man who is so in love with his partner, he will do anything for her. He is also telling her that she is so sexy, that he can't help kissing her: "Hit me, you can't hurt me - suck my kiss / kiss me please pervert me - stick with this. Your mouth was made to suck my kiss." Anthony Kiedis explained to Rolling Stone magazine that such sexual overtures were meant positively rather than crudely.
  • The music video for this song is made up of stock footage from the Chilis' documentary film Funky Monks.
  • A notable highlight of "Suck My Kiss" is the whole band chord stabs that occur in the second half of each chorus with expert accuracy; in the first chorus the Chili's deliver three consecutive stabs, in the second chorus two, and in the final chorus just one - a feat of timing which anyone who has endured the hours of rehearsal that any band requires will admire. >>>

  • The song was covered by Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine on his 2000 album Lounge Against the Machine. >>>

    Martin - Detroit, MI
  • As he later did on the group's 1995 track "Aeroplane," Anthony Kiedis sprinkled the word "motherf--ker" into the lyric, which hurt its chances for airplay. The profanity was edited out of the video version.
