Songfacts®:

  • Dequantes Lamar is a rapper from Atlanta, Georgia, who performs under the name of Rich Homie Quan. This Southern rap banger was originally a bonus track from his Still Goin' In: Reloaded mixtape. The street anthem bubbled in Atlanta for a few months before breaking nationwide and becoming a fixture in clubs from coast to coast.
  • The song is full of unabashed boasting:

"That car I'm driving make you feel some type of way
That Custom Breitling make you feel some type of way
This bitch I'm with got me feeln' some type a way."

Quan's delight with his convertible, watch and the girl on his arm gives him such a pleasurable, satisfied feeling that can only be described as "some type of way."
  • Drake expressed his regret to MTV News for not jumping on the song as well as another Atlanta single, Migos' "Versace." "I was sitting with DJ Drama and a bunch of people in the studio just debating about Atlanta records and when I heard 'Versace,' right away [I liked it]," said the Toronto MC "Shout out to Rich Homie Quan too, he's killing it on his own, but it was a toss-up between Migos and Rich Home Quan as far as records I loved and wanted to get on. I was supposed to do 'Type of Way' [also] and I probably should've done them both but I've just been trying to finish this album."

Drake added that he wished he had written the cut. "That record is the song of the summer, I regret not getting on it, but I feel like now if I get on it, people are gonna be like 'ah man you waited too long,'" he said. "I like to have the jump on it. I wish I would've written that record. That's Toronto talk — you feel a type of way, that's our lingo, so I should've probably been involved in that."
