"Mary Pickford" The Darling Of Them All

Album: not on an album (1913)

Songfacts®:

  • In an era where celebrity and stardom are commonplace it is easy for us to forget that earlier eras also had their stars, and they didn't come any bigger than this one. Born Gladys Smith, the actress and founder member of United Artists, Mary Pickford (1892-1973), was the first star to have multiple songs written about her, five in 1914 alone according to Ken Wlaschin in The Silent Cinema in Song, 1896-1929.
  • "'Mary Pickford' The Darling Of Them All" is credited words and music by Dave Radford, Daisy Sullivan and Richard A Whiting; it was published by Jerome H. Remick, and was released to coincide with Mary's first full length feature film, A Good Little Devil. Whiting "arrived" the following year with "It's Tulip Time In Holland," but only because Miss Pickford ate all the roses! >>>
