  • This heartfelt ballad was co-written by Rixton's fellow Brit Ed Sheeran. "'Hotel Ceiling' means a lot to us as a band, and we feel like it's a song many people will be able to relate to," Jake told Billboard magazine. "Lyrically, it's very heartfelt and we hope to convey that same honesty in the music as well."
  • Frontman Jake Roche explained the song's lyrical content to MTV News. "It is very sad," he said. "It's about this guy whose just been drinking and staring at the hotel ceiling after a lovely lady has left him; kind of taking him for a fool."

Jake added that the rest of the band had found it difficult working out the song's meaning. "There's a few subliminal or metaphorical lines in there," he said, "which have turned a few heads."
  • Rixton do not appear in the song's visual, which was directed by Clarence Fuller (Martha Wash's "It's My Time," Greyson Chance's "Sunshine & City Lights.") The clip co-stars actress Alice Eve and model Billy Huxley. You might recognise Alice Eve from her roles as the female lead in She's Out of My League, Erin, Charlotte's Irish nanny, in Sex and the City 2 and Dr. Carol Marcus in Star Trek Into Darkness. She also appeared briefly in Paul McCartney's music video for "Queenie Eye."

Jake Roche said: "We chose not to be in the video because we didn't want to distract from the actors who were really able to hone in on this story, and convey the meaning of our song. Since the lyrics have a strong narrative, we wanted to portray that in the video and we're really thrilled how it turned out."
