Songfacts®:

  • While the Sixty Minute Man could please his woman for an hour of lovemaking, Robert Cray takes it to another level in this song, where he sings about being there for her every minute of every day.

The lyrics were written by Mack Rice, a Memphis songwriter who co-wrote "Respect Yourself" for the Staple Singers and "Mustang Sally" by Wilson Pickett. The music was written by Jon Tiven, who played in a variety of groups and was making a name for himself as a songwriter and producer. Jon told us the story: "I had a friend, Mack Rice, who I had met when I lived in Memphis. He told me he wanted to do some writing with me. I said, 'Great. I'll send you some music.' So I sent him a music track. He put my cassette on in his bathroom and he had one of the boom boxes that you could sing into. So he was in his bathroom singing into one boombox as he's playing it on the other, and it sounded great. It was '24-7 Man.' It was cut by Robert Cray and went to #1 on the AAA charts."
  • The album Take Your Shoes Off won the Grammy Award for Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Blues Album in 2000.
