Songfacts®:

  • Robert De Leo is the bass player in Stone Temple Pilots but he plays a number of instruments and has a habit of accumulating unusual guitars. This song started when he got a cigar box guitar called a cigfiddle.

"It's one of those instruments that when you pick it up, you're instantly writing a song, and that was the inspiration for that song," he said in a Songfacts track by track.
  • "Put Aside Your Sorrows" is part of De Leo's debut solo album, Lessons Learned. He got help on the track from Pete Shoulder, who sings lead and wrote the lyric, which finds him dropping the baggage from his past so he can enjoy the present.

"Pete is British and lives in a little village up in Northern England, and I thought that he could really relate to the sound and the quality of the song," De Leo said. "Brilliant lyrics. I love what he did with that song."
