Songfacts®:

  • Here, Rod Wave and Jack Harlow talk about their contrasting come-ups. Both had big dreams, but Wave's success came only after plenty of hard grind. Now he's amazed he's accumulated such a fan base. Meanwhile, Harlow just followed his gut and he appears less surprised he made it to the top.
  • Yeah, they say, "Ooh, there go the youngin," yeah, yeah
Make way for him, yeah, yeah

A "yungen" is a young person with style. Because Wave's early years on the streets of St. Petersburg, Florida, were difficult, he could only dream of being considered a "yungen." Now that he's wealthy and famous, those dreams have come to fruition.
  • The song ends with sampled news footage of a Baltimore Rod Wave concert where some fans couldn't get into the venue because it was so crowded.
  • Wave and Harlow wrote "Yungen" with the track's producers BabeTruth and Eelmatic. Angel "BabeTruth" Lopez worked with Harlow throughout the recording of his Come Home the Kids Miss You album. He co-produced 14 out of its 15 tracks, including "Nail Tech," "First Class," and "Dua Lipa."
