Songfacts®:

  • This is the lead single from Success Is Certain, the fifth solo album from Detroit rapper Royce da 5'9". He told The Boombox: "Writer's Block' is just raw lyrics letting everybody know where I am; the kind of level I am spittin' on today." The single was released on March 29, 2011.
  • The song features Eminem on the hook. The pair both grew up in Detroit and were mutual friends of the late rapper Proof. They released a few recordings together in the late 1990s including "Bad Meets Evil" which appeared on Eminem's major label debut, The Slim Shady LP. The rappers subsequently became embroiled in a feud but sadness over the tragic shooting death of Proof in 2006 led to mended fences and Royce reached out to Eminem to appear on this song. Later, they started recording for Bad Meets Evil EP, Hell: The Sequel.
