  • Rudimental linked up with upcoming Virgin/EMI singer-songwriter Ella Eyre for this single, which they debuted on Zane Lowe's BBC Radio 1 show on February 21, 2013. Asked how they discovered Eyre, band member Piers Agget replied: "We did a writing session together and we were just blown away by her voice. We all had a gut feeling that this was our favorite song to start this year off."
  • The song's music video was filmed in Los Angeles over several days using DV cameras. It is based on the true-life story of BMX champion and actor Kurt Yaeger, who lost his lower leg in a motorcycle accident in 2006. Rudimental's Amir told MTV UK the clip was inspired by the 2012 Paralympic Games in London: "It's close to us 'cos we're in Hackney so it was a big part of our lives for a few months," he said. "It's actually a true story. A lot of the footage that you see was filmed already."

His bandmate Piers added: "It linked with 'Not Giving In' and 'Feel The Love' about reality and overcoming struggles so yeah it was all shot in the style of home footage and it was really cool."

"He lost his leg in a crash,' Amir continued. "So we had to film that bit but there's some truth in there. Just like our other videos there's no actors."
  • The inspiration for the video came from the group's hometown of Hackney. "In the past Hackney has had a negative reputation," songwriter and DJ/producer Amir Amor admitted to Digital Spy, "but we're all positive guys and we come from there - there is light in these dark places. That said, it could be Hackney, a slum halfway across the world or the BMX culture in LA, but the theme remains the same. We also take the videos very seriously because we're not in them, so they have to be spot on!"
  • Amir Amor recalled to The Sun meeting Ella Eyre at the studio: "We don't write songs with anyone in mind but hope that the right person will come along," he said. "We had 'Waiting All Night' written for a long time and were just sitting on it, as we couldn't find the right voice to make it come to life. Then we met Ella, who had just come out of school, and she just killed it. We'd been looking for someone to come on tour with us and she was perfect."
  • This won Best British Single at the 2014 BRIT Awards. Rudimental also teamed up with Bastille for a collaborative performance at the ceremony, forming a collective that host James Corden called "Bastimental."
  • The song was co-written by James Newman, the brother of John Newman ("Love Me Again").
  • Ex-Voice UK contestant Kelly-Marie Smith sued James Newman, claiming he'd ripped off her 2006 track "Can You Tell Me" when co-writing "Waiting All Night." The case reached the High Court where a judge dismissed Smith's claim. He stated there was no evidence that Newman copied Smith's work when penning the Rudimental hit.
