Songfacts®:

  • Russ Vitale is an American hip-hop recording artist of Italian ancestry who records under the name of Russ. The Atlanta based singer's self-produced tracks on his SoundCloud page attracted the interest of record labels and in 2016, Russ signed to Columbia Records. This song is his debut hit.
  • Vitale explained to Genius that he wrote the song around the time that he first started getting interest from labels. "At that time, I was like 'I know what y'all want. Stop talking to me.' That was the inspiration, "he said. "Everyone wanted a piece. NOW y'all talking to me, but I know what y'all want."
  • Vitale followed his usual writing process with this song of creating the melody first, then fitting the words into the melody. "That first verse melody, that s--t instantly came out, and the words kind of came out, too," he said. "This one, I made the beat in the studio and instantly did. It's a minimal beat. I like minimal. It's like four instruments. So it didn't take long at all."
