Songfacts®:

  • After former producer Ethan Johns sent him a copy of English singer-songwriter Laura Marling's second album, I Speak Because I Can, Adams threw out 80% of what he had written for Ashes & Fire. He noted to UK newspaper The Sun: "That record messed me up. It stupefied me and I had to go back to the drawing board. Then Ethan told me she liked my music and I was blown away. She is a Dylan. A muse. I cleared the decks and I wrote 'Invisible Riverside' right after seeing her perform."
