Songfacts®:

  • This song is about a woman who has had way too much plastic surgery. In our interview with Saint Motel frontman A/J Jackson, he explained: "I used to assist this photographer here in LA doing high-fashion shoots. One day, we were discussing this model. She was pretty, but there was something about her that just didn't quite work together. Her facial features, there was nothing wrong with them, but something was off. The most beautiful eyes, the most beautiful lips, most beautiful ears, but for some reason things didn't fit together. And I thought that was a really interesting idea."
  • A/J Jackson, who studied film at Chapman University, directed the music video, which is shot from his first-person perspective. Jackson created a primitive camera rig, strapping an SLR camera to a motorcycle helmet. He wore a neck brace, but the contraption was still unwieldy and gave him a pain in the neck.

In the clip, a dancer goes down with an injury before a big show, and Jackson saves the day when he steps in to take his place. The video has nothing to do with the song, but Saint Motel videos are rarely literal: Jackson often gets ideas by shutting his eyes and listening to the song. The images that come into his head and be just about anything.
  • The injured dancer in the video is played by Ryan Heffington, who also choreographed the clip. Heffington would go on to choreograph Sia's video for "Chandelier" and Arcade Fire's "We Exist."

  • RaptorgamingytI feel like this song is about the democratic media and how it corrupts everything it touches. The whole second verse tells me that.
