Songfacts®:

  • "You Time" is an endearing love song where Scotty McCreery sings of putting his demanding work schedule aside to enjoy some quality time with his wife Gabi. The first verse finds him reflecting on his life as a busy touring and recording artist.

The road's got me rollin' six days a week
Whole lotta work and not much sleep

In the second verse, McCreery sings of his appreciation for Gabi's job. When he penned the song she was working as a pediatric nurse at Duke University Hospital at Durham, North Carolina.

You're up before that sun can rise
    Climbin' mountains, changin' lives

In the chorus, McCreery talks about his and Gabi's need to stop what they're doing for some "me and you time."
  • McCreery said that the lyrics were inspired by how difficult it can be for the couple to spend quality time together amid their busy lives. "Our neighbor would always crack up because he'd see me flying in, coming back from the road," he told Taste of Country. "Gabi would be driving out and we'd kiss each other hello and goodbye at the same time and that was our interaction for a lot of that year."
  • "You Time" is the lead single from McCreery's fourth studio album. It finds him once again hooking up again with producer Frank Rogers, who was behind the boards on his two previous records.
  • Scotty debuted the live version of "You Time" during his show at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on September 4, 2020. It was his first in-person (albeit socially distanced) concert since the coronavirus lockdown.
  • The video mixes shots of McCreery performing the song with a story of a young couple embarking on married life. Gabi McCreery makes an appearance at the end of the clip walking hand-in-hand with her husband backstage.
