Songfacts®:

  • This song is a satire of many of the moral lessons described in the TV series The Brady Bunch, namely the common lesson that people will like you for you. The song humorously states that as long as you be yourself, then nobody will want to bully you and you will never have problems with your physical appearance ever again, because life is simple just like a sitcom. >>

  • Christopher Knight portrayed Peter Brady, the middle Brady brother, on The Brady Bunch, which ran from 1969 to 1974 on ABC. The song was likely inspired by the season 3 episode "The Personality Kid." Peter is crushed when another boy tells him he has no personality, so he decides to invent a new one. By the end, he reverts to his old self and earns a flock of admirers - but not before giving us the catchphrase "pork chops and applesauce."
  • This features backing vocals from Fat Mike of NOFX.
