Songfacts®:

  • September originally recorded this track in 2005. It began making waves in UK and American clubs in 2007 and in the latter territory it topped the Billboard Hot Dance Airplay charts. In 2008, the UK record label Hard2Beat made it their third national release and it swiftly entered the UK Top 10.
  • All of Hard2Beat's first three releases made the UK Top 10. The other two, were "Now You're Gone" by September's fellow Swede Basshunter and "What's It Gonna Be" by H Two O featuring Platnum.
  • September told Digital Spy about this song: "It's about when you're done with relationship. A lot of people write to me and say 'It's really emotional and I feel so much for the song because my boyfriend la la la', which is really nice for me, even though I didn't write the lyrics. I've had a lot of experiences like that so that's what gives me the nerve to sing it."
  • The Swede, whose real name is Petra Marklund explained to Digital Spy why she is called September: "It's because I was born in September and my family knew someone called September. We always thought it was a nice name. Also, September is the time of the year when people are going inside and making music - in Sweden at least!"
  • September was the first European dance act to have a Hot 100 hit for over two years. The previous one was the German club act Cascada, whose "Everytime We Touch," peaked at #10 in 2006. September explained to scandipop.co.uk, why it charted stateside: "The song was so strong by itself. And I've been there and it feels like the fans are starved of dance music. But now dance music is coming back again, and the world is getting smaller and smaller because of the internet – that now sometimes you don't even have to do much promotion, although obviously it is still very important. But I think that a hit song will always find a way."
  • This samples the tune of Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy."
