Songfacts®:

  • This military-march piano ballad was written by Sia with the UK Pop songwriter Chris Braide. The pair previously co-penned Britney Spears' single, "Perfume" and David Guetta's hit tune "She Wolf (Falling to Pieces)."
  • The song's narrator is not ready to move on after breaking up with her lover. Overwhelmed by her emotions, she tries to pretend he's still with her, but her efforts are futile.
  • The song's title is an allusion to a quote from Jesus Christ from Matthew 19:24. The verse reads:

"It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

The gospel passage finds Jesus illustrating that it is impossible for someone who trusts in riches to get to the kingdom of God. However, He goes on to add that with God all things are possible and if a rich man puts his faith in Christ, then God can bring them in.

Sia uses the biblical phrase as a metaphor for how difficult it is to deal with emotional pain.
