Songfacts®:

  • This festive jazz jam is the lead single from Sia's first holiday album Everyday Is Christmas. The record features ten original songs co-written by Sia with longtime collaborator Greg Kurstin, who worked on the Australian's previous three sets: We Are Born, 1000 Forms of Fear and This Is Acting. Kurstin also produced the entire album.
  • Speaking with Zane Lowe on his Beats 1 show, Sia described how she and Greg Kurstin ended up writing the album: "I thought we had a bit of a shortage of good Christmas music. There's obviously the classics and stuff, but anything new, I wasn't vibing that much on it," she said.

"I just was having so much fun, because it's already there, all of the concepts, you just have to expand on them," Sia continued. "It's not like you have to have an original idea to begin with. It's like, Christmas, mistletoe, ho-ho-ho, Santa Claus, Christmas list, elves. You've got all of the subject matter."

"It was easy and fun. So, we did it in two weeks," she concluded. "And I couldn't stop writing new songs - so, I ended up with an original album by accident."
  • Kurstin, who is Jewish, also worked on Kelly Clarkson's 2013 Christmas album Wrapped in Red. "I'm still sort of new at this Christmas thing," the producer told Entertainment Weekly. "I have some sleigh bells in the studio, so I can get in the mood pretty quickly."
  • The song's retro video features real-life celebrity couple Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard hosting a Christmas Eve party. Henry "The Fonz" Winkler and All My Children actress Susan Lucci feature as the grandparents while Stranger Things star Caleb McLaughlin and It's Wyatt Oleff and Sophia Lillis play the children. Comedian J.B. Smoove, meanwhile, is the titular Santa.
  • The song topped Billboard's Adult Contemporary chart dated December 23, 2017. It was Sia's first ever #1 as an artist on that tally. She previously peaked at #2 in February 2017 with "Cheap Thrills."
