Across The Night

Album: Diorama (2002)
Play Video

Songfacts®:

  • The lyrics are based on the dreams of lead singer Daniel Johns. Curiously, he had the dream where he "hugged a man's arthritic shoulder" before he contracted arthritis.
  • This song, like the video, is divided into two acts: Night and Day. The Night section details Johns' dreams, and the Day section seems to talk about a relationship.
  • This was always envisaged as the opening to Diorama, as its theatrical theme set the tone of the album and the tour that accompanied it (which was also split into two acts: one a theatrical set where Silverchair played their more orchestral songs, and the second a straight up rock set). Says Johns: "It takes you into a different world and prepares you for what's to come." >>
