Songfacts®:

  • This song is a tribute to the '50s and '60s blonde bombshell actress Jayne Mansfield (mother of Law And Order star Mariska Hartigay). She, along with two other adults, was killed in a grisly car accident on the way to New Olreans for a gig. The song includes Manfield's famous catch phrase "divoon." >>>

  • "Kiss Them For Me" is the title of a 1957 movie that Mansfield starred in with Cary Grant.
  • In the US, this was the only Top 40 hit for Siouxsie and the Banshees. They fared much better in the UK.

  • Cherryberry from OregonThe "someone" carving their devotion in the geart shaped pool is Mansfield's off-and-on husband, Mickey Hargitay (who raised Mariska after her mother death even though he was not her biological father). In his home country, Hargitay worked as a plumber snd carpenter. He was able to build Mansfield a heart-shaped pool with "I love you, Janey" spelled at the bottom in tiles.
  • Ken T from Mt. Olive, Nc What movie was this on?
  • Pfr from NjVideo came up on an FB feed and remembered hearing it a long time ago. Didn’t waste time downloading it. Great song.
  • James from Florence, KyThis song spent 5 weeks in the #1 position on Billboard's alternative chart in July and August of 1991.
  • Scott from UsaSong has a timeless sound to it. Love me some Siouxsie.
  • Eric from Beaverton, OrI remember hearing this on the radio when it came out in 1991. It was one of my favorites from that time, and listening to this song always brings me back to that time in my life.
  • Liliana from Philadelphia, PaI heard this song for the first time in my life in 2007 through internet radio. By the last verse I knew I needed to look into the brilliant band that created it. I never heard the song before and even though it made top 40 in the US, the loser local radio station never played it (my genre was rock and alternative but they pretty much played American rock all the time). All I can say is that I own all Siouxsie and the Banshees albums currently plus one Creatures (Anima Animus)... I bought Hai! from iTunes not too long ago, but the real album is the next one on my "to do" list. Absolutely love this band.
  • Tom Duncan from Memphis, TnI heard this song just the other day in my car and I loved the sound and the singer's voice. So I downloaded it and I'm driving my wife nuts playing it too often. I do that sometimes until it the song's novelty passes. Then I'll place the song in my top 25. Great rhythm!
