  • In our interview with Chris Corner of Sneaker Pimps, we asked him about the meaning behind "Spin Spin Sugar."

"We wrote that basically as a dance track," he said. "It was kind of abstract, and you could interpret it in many ways. Our concept was to keep it as free as possible and use words that were kind of like club culture, but were a little bit more progressive or a little bit more intellectual than dance was. It was trying to dip into that market without having it mean that much."
  • This was the follow-up to Sneaker Pimps debut single "6 Underground." The group's trip-hop sound caught on in their native England, and also found an audience in America, where the group spent much of 1997 touring. Their lead singer, Kelli Dayton, was booted from the band before they started work on their second album, Splinter, which was released in 1999. With Chris Corner taking over on lead vocals, the album had little impact in America and managed two minor hits in the UK, "Low Five" (#39) and "Ten To Twenty" (#56).
  • Toby Tremlett, who did the "6 Underground" video, also worked on this one. He told Songfacts: "'Spin Spin Sugar' gave me a chance to be a little more abstract. We stayed with a similarly dark theme of a motel room and the idea that nowhere is really 'private.' You can hear what's happening in the next room. Nobody is up to any good. More private perversions in a small town setting. Again, the characters were up to sort of private David Lynch type tricks... nothing was quite what it seemed. We went for a quite trippy feeling and came up with some interesting new techniques like a few invisible scratch edits and things that kept it a little surprising and edgy for the time. I still love the colors and styling in that video."
