Songfacts®:

  • Lead singer Jeff Deyo explained on the liner notes for Wow #1s, why the trio chose to cover this worship number on their self-titled debut set. Deyo wrote: "While we wanted to write some new worship songs, we also chose to include some that were already popular. 'Open The Eyes…' by Paul Baloche was a very special one. The power of this simple song has not faded, probably, because Paul wrote it in an authentic moment of worship – it wasn't the crafting of a hit song; it was his prayer."
  • According to a August 2008 survey by CCLI, who handle copyright licensing of Christian songs for use in churches, this is the fourth most performed song in church services. The most performed song is Chris Tomlin's "How Great Is Our God."
  • The Sonicflood LP sold 900,000 units, and won a Dove Award for Best Praise and Worship Album.
