Songfacts®:

  • This was originally earmarked to be the second single from American rapper Soulja Boy Tell 'Em's third album, The DeAndre Way, but was subsequently canceled and replaced by "Blowin' Me Kisses." Drake collaborator Boi-1da produced the song.
  • Soulja Boy told MTV News that the song shows off his improving rhyme skills. "Basically, it's all about the sound of the music," he said. "I got bars on this one. First verse, second verse, all bars, another anthem, as far as the hook. The hook is catchy."
  • The song was eventually released as the third single from The DeAndre Way on October 19, 2010.
  • This was an immediate favorite of Jimmy Iovine, Co-CEO of Interscope. "I played it in a staff meeting, and that was Jimmy's favorite song off the whole album," Soulja Boy told Billboard magazine. "Jimmy was like, 'Speakers, speakers, speakers! When are we going to shoot the 'Speakers' video?' It was all very favorable."
  • The DeAndre Way only sold 13k in its first week. Producer Boi-1da blamed the retailers marketing for the album's lack of success. He told Vibe magazine: "I don't think they pushed that project out properly. Personally, I couldn't even find the album in stores. Rihanna and Justin Bieber was all in front of the store, and they had Soulja's all the way in the back somewhere. The average fan is not going to go dig in the back of the store for it. It should have been in the front with the rest of the new releases. I don't think his numbers have anything to do with him falling off or anything like that, but it just wasn't placed properly. All the people that I know that were on the album too, said the same thing."
