Songfacts®:

  • In the 1970s, Space Waltz were probably the best New Zealand answer to glam rock. "Out On The Street" was written by frontman Alastair Riddell. In 2007, when he was asked what inspired the song, Riddell said it was based on personal experience from hanging out with a friend; at 1 or 2 a.m. they would saunter down to the only 24-hour dairy in Auckland (as you would do) and the cross-dressers used to hang out in the doorways down there. The song was actually a cynical commentary on the Age of Aquarius in which we were then supposed to be living.
  • "Out On The Street" was released on the EMI label backed by another Riddell song, "Angel. Running to to 3 minutes 20 seconds, it was also the fourth track on the band's eponymous, debut and only album. >>>
