Songfacts®:

  • The first single from Staind's self-titled seventh album was released to active radio stations on July 19, 2011 and made available for purchase on July 26, 2011. Describing how the song came about, guitarist Mike Mushok told Revolver magazine: "I actually came up with the clean intro/verse part first and wrote the heavy riff around that. This was a song that I brought down and pretty much had written when we started jamming. Not much changed from when I worked through the song with Johnny K (bassist) in Chicago before the sessions. It was one of the earlier things I wrote for the record that just stuck with me."
  • Mushok's guitar solo was improvised. He told Artist Direct: "I went back and relearned it. It was literally one take. I'd gone home and worked on some other stuff, and Johnny was like, 'I love what you have here.' I'd basically put everything down for Jon to play drums to it."
  • Relationships within the band were at their lowest ebb during the recording of Staind. Things deteriorated to the extent that singer Aaron Lewis and Mike Mushok were barely speaking to one another and longtime drummer Jon Wysocki departed from the band following the recording process in May 2011. Lewis told Audio Ink Radio this track reflected the difficult process of laying down the album. He said: "It all manifested itself through the song - the duress and struggle that it was to make this record."

  • Luna Loud from Royal Woods, MichiganI wonder if the lyrics on this record were about the internal struggle within the band... but, Hell the solos were good!
