Songfacts®:

  • The schizophrenic conversations are the voices in your head. Nobody else knows for sure what's going on in your mind, and how it feels to be you.

Staind lead singer Aaron Lewis was on the vanguard when it came to soul-bearing songs dealing with mental health issues. The first Staind album was Tormented and the second Dysfunction; both titles aptly reflected his state of mind.

Lewis used his songs as a kind of therapy, a release that made it easier to cope in the other aspects of his life.
  • The song is part of Staind's fifth album, Chapter V. They played it a few times on the road and considered releasing it as a single, but it didn't get the reaction they hoped for. The album went to #1 in America but continued a downward trend for the band that continued until they went on hiatus in 2011, with Lewis becoming a country singer. The group made a few live appearances over the next few years but didn't release a new song until "Lowest In Me" in 2023.
