Songfacts®:

  • Guitarist Dean DeLeo told MusicRadar that this is one of a number of the tracks on Stone Temple Pilots that use their original working titles. He explained: "These titles crack me up. A lot of them were the working titles and they just stuck. 'Peacoat' is one of them. As a title it has nothing to do with the song at all.

One day I was looking at a photograph of my son standing in Central Park in the dead of winter and he was wearing his little peacoat. He was probably about four or so in the picture. So I went off to work and I was thinking of the picture and I had the title in my head."
  • Frontman Scott Weiland didn't want to include this track on the album. Dean DeLeo told Musicradar.com: "I love this song. It's a great rocker. Funnily enough, Scott didn't know if it should be on the record, which really surprised me because he knocked it out of the park vocally. Sometimes you have those disagreements. I couldn't believe he was having second thoughts about it - his singing was so strong! I'm glad it made the record, of course."
