Songfacts®:

  • SZA, The Weeknd and Travis Scott recorded this track for the For the Throne album, which comprises music inspired by the Game of Thrones TV series. The song title is a reference to a scene in the second season premiere episode in which the spy Littlefinger and Cersei Lannister debate the nature of power. Littlefinger tells Cersei Lannister "Knowledge is power," to which she responds abruptly, "Power is power."
  • The first verse finds The Weeknd positioning himself as Jon Snow the illegitimate son of a Northern lord.

I was born of the ice and snow
With the winter wolves, in the dark, alone

Later on, during his verse Travis Scott gives lyrical nods to soul-swappers and monsters with crowns, references that Game of Thrones fans will be familiar with.
  • The song marks SZA, The Weeknd and Travis Scott first collaboration as a trio. However, the artists have worked together on separate occasions in the past. Most notably, the latter pair connected on "Pray 4 Love" a cut off of Scott's 2015 album Rodeo and the following year on the rapper's Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight track "Wonderful." In 2017 SZA recruited Scott for "Love Galore," a single off her CTRL CD.
