Songfacts®:

  • Bachman is the son of Canadian rocker Randy Bachman, who is famous for his work in The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. This is Tal's first single - his sound is much more mellow and mainstream than his father's.
  • Tal Bachman wrote this song. He told MTV News in 1999 that it's about an experience he had at Semiahoo Secondary School in South Surrey, British Columbia.

"I attempted to bribe the hottest girl in our high school to go out on a date with [my stepbrother], "Bachman said." So as the conversation between me and what I thought was this godly, exalted woman progressed, I began to feel more and more uncomfortable and awkward, and so I just remember that feeling... I don't want to say fear, but just kind of being in awe of her."
  • In 2003, Kurt Nilsen's cover version became Norway's best selling single ever. Nilsen is the answer to a great trivia question: who won the only "World Idol" competition? He won the one-off show in 2004 competing for Norway against the Idol winners from other countries, including Kelly Clarkson, who came in second. Nilsen sang U2's "Beautiful Day" on the show.
  • This was used in the movies Loser (2000) and She's Out of My League (2010), and in episodes of Charmed ("Wicca Envy" - 1999) and Girls ("All I Ever Wanted" - 2017).
  • In 2019, this was used in a Peloton commercial where a husband gives his wife one of their bikes for Christmas. We don't recommend giving your significant other exercise equipment as a gift.

  • Nathaniel Akpan from LondonI’m just thinking of this song because I’ve listened to this song so many times a lots of times I’ve listened to it.
  • Vietnam Vet John from WisconsinI’ve seen hate, death, and destruction and enjoy foot tapping songs about love and happiness. She’s So High and She’s Out Of My League make me feel wonderful about the woman I love.
  • Tommyo from CaliforniaThis might be the ear wormiest chorus I've ever heard
  • Seventh Mist from 7th HeavenThe song worked well in “She’s Out of My League,” where an airport security geek sets his sights on a goddess. He knows she’s far up in the dating pecking order, but he had must to try to meet and date her.
  • Erik from NycJust watched Wicca Envy. This song is not in it.
  • Michelle from Santa Cruz I remember a different girl in the video. She was heavier. I remember thinking how cool it was that they didn’t have a heroin-skinny mode for the video, but a full figured woman who was also beautiful. Am I missing something?
  • Joe from 49417What's the point of having wings if you still gotta take the stairs?
  • Harold from University Park, Pa@ Moto

    Yvonne Scio
  • Mike from Santa Barbara, CaThe title originally had me thinking the song was about a stoner.
  • Hannah from Fargo, Ndthis song gets too much radio play if you ask me! I liked it a long time ago, but they were always playing it!
