Songfacts®:

  • Paris is famously known as the City Of Love. In this song, Taylor Swift imagines being in the French city with her boyfriend, Joe Alwyn. She also pictures them stumbling down alleyways drinking cheap wine while pretending it's champagne. Such is the all-consuming nature of Swift's love, it leads to her making up simple moments and adventures with her beau.
  • Though Swift is fantasizing here, she's also reliving a fond memory. On September 9, 2019, the American star held a City of Lover concert at the Olympia theater in Paris just over a fortnight after the release of her romantic Lover album. Joe Alwyn was with her in the French capital.
  • Swift co-wrote and co-produced "Paris" with fellow American musician Jack Antonoff. It's one of seven bonus tracks on the digitally available 3am Edition of Swift's 10th album, Midnights.
  • Mikey "Ex Reyes" Hart plays synthesizer, organ and theremin, and Evan Smith plays synthesizer and percussion. They're both members of Antonoff's rock project Bleachers.
  • "Paris" is the third Taylor Swift song to have a city in the title, the others being the 1989 cut "Welcome to New York" and Lover track "London Boy."
