Songfacts®:

  • This was the first song that the three Perry siblings wrote with the family songwriting team Aaron, Brian and Clara Henningsen for their self-titled debut album. Five of their collaborations eventually made the cut, including this romantic tune. "It's about a girl who is in love with this boy," explained Kimberly Perry to Dave Dawson of Nu Country TV. "She can't do her thing because he stands so much taller than her - because it's heartbreaking because he has someone else. That's why I fell in love with Catherine Britt's song 'Dirt Cheap.' She's literally telling somebody she can't win. At the end of the song you can't blame the girl for trying."
