Drift Away

Album: not released on an album (2011)

Songfacts®:

  • We'll forgive the Box Story brothers Dylan and Noah Chenfeld for using the same title as the 1973 Dobie Gray hit, as Noah was just 15 he wrote this song, and Dylan was just two years older, separating them from the first "Drift Away" by at least a generation. Explaining the inspiration behind this song, Noah told us: "I had parts of it written, and basically didn't write the rest of it for months, sometimes years after that. I think I wrote the chorus in the fall of 2010 with the lyrics, and slowly worked out the rest of he song up until the spring of 2011 when I had to make some lyrical changes. I knew I wanted the song to be about drifting away to a place far far away from the troubles and annoyance we face in our of everyday life, but as simple as the message seemed, I was having trouble writing lyrics that really got that message out in a unique way. In the end, I think it came out pretty good. I think homework and school in general inspired that song, sitting in a class, waiting for the period to be over, hopefully it can relate to people who feel the same way, whether it be school or something far more serious or stupid. Those na-na-na's at the end always remind people of the hey jude na-na's, I'll take it. The video is a fun New York City video."
