Songfacts®:

  • You'll remember this song from the 1972 Brady Bunch episode "Dough Re Mi," where Peter Brady's voice is changing as puberty sets in. As he sings his part, his voice cracks because he hasn't grown into it yet. As part of the plot, his older brother Greg writes the song for the six kids to perform specifically with Peter's voice change in mind - the song is all about how changes are part of life and should be embraced.
  • The Brady Bunch wasn't conceived as a musical show, but it became one as it progressed. They ended up releasing four albums and doing various real-life live performances. "Time To Change" is on their second album, Meet The Brady Bunch, and was also released as a single. Unlike the version used on the show, the release doesn't include Peter's cracking voice.

The album includes a few more original songs and also some covers, including the Brady versions of "American Pie" and "Me and You and a Dog named Boo."
  • The original songs on The Brady Bunch were written by professional songwriters who stayed behind the scenes. "Time To Change" was written by Billy Meshel, Christopher Welch, and Raymond Bloodworth.

The kids did their own singing, at least according to Barry Williams, who played Greg. On the next season of the show, they did a very popular episode called "Amateur Nite" where they performed the songs "It's A Sunshine Day" and "Keep On."
