• Wonder how The Calling got their name? Lead Singer Alex Band has said that he was having a conversation with lead guitarist Aaron Kamin about music in general while trying to find band names. Aaron has said it was their "calling" to make music.
• The Calling were signed in 1998 by RCA and were featured playing their hit song "Wherever You Will Go" in the 2000 movie Coyote Ugly. >>

• Alex Band and his current supporting musicians abruptly began performing under the name "The Calling" after an eight year hiatus. They did so without the prior knowledge or permission of founder member Aaron Kamin. The new incarnation of the band played its first gig on August 16, 2013 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
• Alex Band was robbed, beaten severely, and dumped by two men in the early hours of August 18, 2013 after The Calling had performed at the Lapeer Days Festival in Michigan. The singer had left his hotel room to walk to a local convenience store when a van containing the two men pulled up alongside and kidnapped him. He was discovered at a local railroad track once his bandmates and crew had realized the frontman was missing and assembled a search party. Band suffered a fractured lower spine, a facial laceration requiring 15 stitches, bruising to his stomach and side plus three broken teeth.
