Songfacts®:

  • Quite a contrast to their previous single "(For God's Sake) Give More Power to the People," the Chi-Lites take a very positive tone on this song, which opens with the sound of knocking on a door followed by the voice of their bass singer Creadel "Red" Jones saying: "Hi, I'm your next door neighbor."
  • Chi-Lites lead singer Eugene Record wrote this song with Quinton Joseph. In a 1971 interview with Disc and Music Echo, Record said: "With this one we wanted to relate closer to the people. What the song is saying is we are all here together, that's the way it is, and we should try and accept it." (This interview is available at Rock's Backpages.)
