Songfacts®:

  • This is the first single from English indie rock band The Courteeners second album, Falcon.
  • Ed Buller, whose résumé also includes landmark albums by Suede and Pulp, produced this single along with the rest of the album.
  • David Edwards directed the song's music video, which was shot on 35mm at Hanningfield Water treatment works in Essex. It was filmed on the snowiest day of the 2009-10 winter.
  • Falcon was recorded over seven weeks and mixed at Electric Lady Studios in New York with the A-List engineer Michael Brauer.
  • Fray told BBC DJ Steve Lamacq on his Radio 2 show about this song. "It's our attempt at going a little bit Stonsy, a little bit Blondie maybe. It's quite dark, quite sexy, sultry theme. I used to live with a girl for, I think its my kinda of trying to put my arm round her. She was having a bit of a bad time and I think she thought the answer was at the end of the bottle. It definitely isn't. So I think it was me saying 'come on, let's stay in and watch Countdown as opposed to let's go out for a night on the trot."
  • Fray told Spinner UK that he is proud of this song. "I remember our producer had this new toy to play with, so he plugged it in and it was amazing, making this like 'womp womp womp' sound, a really funky, Seventies sound," he explained, then added with a smile, "I wasn't too sure about it but he put it on the song to try it and it sounded amazing and then I wanted it on everything, but you have to be careful with things like that, we can only use it on one in every 12 songs."
