Songfacts®:

  • The Dustbowl Revival is an eight-piece roots music band from Los Angeles. This song is from their fifth album.

"'Honey I Love You' was written when I first started falling for the gal I'm going to marry," lead singer Zach Lupetin told No Depression. "It's a love song about love songs really - I wanted to challenge the pessimist inside me to give into something sweet and good, even when you know it may break your heart. The introspective soul of Bill Withers and Al Green were definitely inspirations here."
  • Keb' Mo' played guitar on this track. The band met him a year earlier in Nashville.
  • The group's female vocalist, Liz Beebe, sings along on this track, which creates a conversational feel. Said Lupetin: "I'm saying we will screw this love affair up somehow - it won't work out. And she says - but why not? What if there is a happy ending? I've seen both sides - falling in love and then knowing you're in the wrong place with the wrong person. And then, the sweetness when it does work."
  • Directed by Jay Arcansalin, the video stars Janis Peebles as a girl who falls in love with a mannequin, which they named Sebastian. It was shot in Venice Beach and some other areas in Los Angeles.
